David Van Deusen, President of the Vermont AFL-CIO, and Michael Alexander, a volunteer who fought with the Kurdish led forces of the People’s Protection Units against Daesh (ISIS) and for Rojava, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, speak out about the Turkish invasion and ethnic cleansing. The democratic revolution in Rojava was not only a fight for ethnic self-determination by the oppressed Kurdish minority, as important as that is, but also a multi-ethnic and secular project practicing gender equality, direct democracy, and religious freedom.
