Vermont Backcountry Alliance Launched

Brian Mohr discusses the efforts of the Vermont Backcountry Alliance (VTBC), a dedicated group of backcountry skiers and riders to create a unified voice for Vermont’s growing backcountry skiing and riding community. The Vermont Backcountry Alliance seeks to protect, advance and advocate for human-powered backcountry skiing and snowboarding. The VTBC facilitates public access to backcountry terrain while promoting safety, responsible terrain management, and the conservation and savvy management of our mountain environment. VTBC is an official program area of Vermont’s Catamount Trail Association.
Projects on the VTBC’s radar include the creation of a new Vermont Backcountry Ethic, as well as planning a 2nd Annual VT Backcountry Forum on Nov. 6th in Rochester. At the event, results from a recent Vermont backcountry survey will be presented, along with an overview of existing and proposed projects coordinated by the Rochester Area Sports Trails Alliance, Friends of Bolton and others.
